Description

Nicolas Freeling was a British crime novelist best known for the Van Der Valk detective series. But he began his working life as an apprentice cook in a large French hotel and his writing is drawn from those experiences. This is a delicious blend of the culinary and the literary, and include such recipes as cinnamon lamb stew and bouillabaisse, all charmingly floating about in a consistently entertaining text. And featuring lovely woodcut artwork by Gail Garraty.

This is a first edition, hardback book, published in 1970 by Harper & Row. It does have some writing on the first page from the previous owner, and the book jacket does have some chipping and shelf wear. There was also a small tear to the front of the book jacket that was repaired by the previous owner with tape, that is now a little yellowed. (Middle and bottom of the front cover, near the letters “F” and “R” in the author’s last name.)
